Why is it that I lose socks in the drier? Does the Drier eat the socks? Doe it feel hunger? Just another one of lifes unsolvable mysterous. My guess would be someone doesn't like to wear matching pairs of shoes so she/he leaves in on the high way hoping someone nice will pick it up to give it a good home.

Probably somebody needed the other one :-). Actually, the joke is to throw one shoe out the window of the car. That way, it doubles the frustration of the person whose show was thrown out, having only half a pair.

This is something that I have noticed and always wondered why also. Normally it's along the freeways. Very often in this area though if you find one, the other one is not far behind.
