Well I can tell u now that u wont even be able to buy a PS3 just yet cause its already sold out of pre-orders and stores will only have a small quantity of them in stock. The X-Box 360 was the same way, people all over was tryin to buy 360's in stores but everybody was sold out. So since it's gonna be released on da 17th of November, unless your one of the people who are willing to camp outside the store and wait till it opens, u may not be able to find it till December.

Buy it the day hell freezes over. No no i kid i kid. I depends on if you want to watch Blue Ray movies or not. From what i heard people buy it for the blue ray. But what they dont relize is that the system is probly not built to play movies. I bought a PS2 simply for the dvd player only to find that the video play back was realy cheap.
David Wilson, Head of Public Relations at Sony Computer Entertainment UK, stated that both models will likely be sold in the UK market, but both may not be available at launch.[13] Previously, Sony Computer Entertainment UK Marketing Director Ray Maguire had stated that only the 60 GB version would be available at launch.[24] Sony announced on September 6, 2006 that the PAL (European and Australasia) launch has been delayed until March, 2007 due to a shortage of diodes used in the Blu-ray drive.[25] Sony have said that they will take legal action against anyone selling imported consoles to EU consumers.[26]

In Japan, Sony has opted to go with an open pricing scheme for the 60 GB model, allowing retailers to set a price point themselves. Rakuten, one of the biggest Japanese online retailers, has set their price point at ¥71,800, or ¥75,390 with taxes added (about US$675).[27] A Merrill Lynch research report estimates the production cost to Sony of a PlayStation 3 console - not including the hard drive but including two more USB ports and another HDMI Output - to be US$800 if they were manufactured for a launch in Spring.[28] Sony has just recently announced that the HDMI cable will not be included[29], instead Composite[citation needed] video cables will be included.

Game pricing
There have also been statements by Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) President and CEO Kaz Hirai suggesting games may cost more than the US$60 standard for higher-priced games.[30] The official Sony website, as of 2006-10-15, offers game preorders at US$59.99. ([4]).

Well, first you have to wait until they come out. If you want to pay 3-4 times its value, buy immediately. If you want to pay what it is worth, buy in 6 months, if you want to pay less, wait and get it when the PS4 is announced.

The other factor is, will it work. Do you really want to pay $500 for a unit that over heats, doesn't do what it's supposed to, etc? Most new game systems have many problems the first 6 months they are out. Look at the 360. They've had all kinds of problems but now are being manufactured differently so they are working, for the most part, as initially intended. I wouldn't have wanted to buy the first week they were out and paid $4K for them like many foolish people did, only to find out it overheated easily.

If you really want a PS3 and an XBox360 is outta the question then wait at least a couple months until [like lots of other people said] all the bugs are worked out and until the price drops... There's no point in paying $500-600 for it when 6-12months from it's release date on Nov. 17th it's price will drop tremendously. Unless you want to own one before all your friends. I still say an XBox360 is the way to go though.

If you can get your hands on a PS3 I say get it 1. to wait a year for a $50 price cut is not worth it. 2. Everyone say wait 6mos because they might have bugs yea thats but you can wait a year and buy one that has a manufacturer defect so to avoid this get an extended warranty. 3. most people don't know that in the long run the 360 will cost more to upgrade to the leave of the PS3.

Not for a while imo. Wait & see how well it actually does, whether games are released often & so forth.

But you gotta ask yourself do you want to pay so much money for a games console. Yeah i'm aware Sony call it a computer, but maybe buying a real computer could be a better option. PC's have much greater potential than a console.

new systems are always full of errors, bugs and glitches. If you are planning to keep your system, it would be a good idea to wait a few months and let the company fix the errors. This idea applies to all systems, be it playstation, xbox, Nintendo, or what-have-you. If you simply cant wait, then get it whenever you want, but dont say I didn't warn you.

Depends, if you actually want to play it or if you want to re-sell it.

I'm buying one on the 17th and plan on re-selling it for at least twice the sticker price within 2 weeks.

If you actually want to play it and can wait after the first shipment, I would say wait for any kinks to be worked out. The first shipment of a console almost always sees some kind of hardware issues.

When it first comes out, there is a very limited amount of the ps3 system coming out at launch so I suggest you reserve it.
