Sperm carries a x or a y chromosome..so the male determines the sex of the baby as the egg is always a x.

The sperm cell determines the sex of the embryo----each egg has 2 "x" chromosomes---the sperm cell has an "x" chromosome and a "y" chromosome and if the egg gets the "x" it is a girl, but if it gets the "y" then it is a boy.
