CHECK LAST=Window swing arm disconnected or electric motor burned out. If it is electric. THE EASIEST TO CHECK FIRST =There is a fuse for it on your fuse panel. The switch could also go out.

Can you hear the window motor operating? If yes, then the electrics are good and the door panel has to be removed. The motor might have to be replaced. You can get a window motor at an auto junk yard. Motor cost $60. I've changed the motor on 3 different cadys. If you know someone that's mechanically inclined, it's not that complicated.

It sounds like the gear that is kinda like a belt that goes on the window drive gear and motor has broken. Can you still hear the motor in the door run when you press the window switch? If so it is the gear and you must buy a new gear and remove door panel and replace it!

If it fell down on it's own, i would say your window guide(connects window to regulator) is broken.
The plastic usually breaks, causing your window to fall all of a sudden.

If you rolled it down all the way and it won't go back up, try hitting the front/ mid/ bottom of door with a mallet or edge of fist with ignition on and switch in up position.
If this works your motor has developed a (flat spot ) due to lack of use.-(typically on rear windows or passenger if your the only one using vehicle.

may need a new switch or motor or regulator, common on these is the wires start to break in the rubber boot between the door and door frame, check there first, depending on which wires break it can still move one way and not the other
