Liberals have consistently increased spending less than conservatives over the past fifty years.

Additionally, over 90% of the national debt has been created by conservative presidents pursuing conservative policies.

The last balanced budget we had was Bill Clinton. Before that, I believe it was Carter.

Therefore, it seems clear that the term "fiscal conservative" is actually an oxymoron.

The facts are clear: the true representatives of Fiscal Responsibility are the liberals.

In the past I would have said Republicans, but not anymore. Tom Delay said there was no more fat to be trimmed from the budget when asked for more money for Katrina - apparently he doesn't consider Alaska's bridge to nowhere to be fat! Bill Clinton and the GOP Congress was the last time we saw fiscal restraint in Washington.

Both parties have fiscal conservatives, probably more in the GOP but they are not in the ascendant in the party right now.

Republicans SAY they are but aren't
Dems don't necessarily say they are but they've had a better track record than Republicans.

Truth is, neither party is all that good at managing the budget.

Generally speaking it is the Republicans, although Bush was cut out of a different template. Democrats are generally quicker to raise taxes instead of make cuts in different areas of spending. Because Republicans are generally opposed to raising taxes they must be more conservative in their spending.

I thought that's what NEOCON was all about, but I've gotten at least four different answers to my question as to what, exactly, a neocon is. So, I guess I don't know. How would you describe a "fiscal conservative?"

You can be either or... any combination is possible. Being fiscally conservative is just part of the over all picture. Anybody, regardless of party affiliation can be a fiscal conservative.

The Libertarians are the true conservative party.

The Democrats and Republicans are owned by their corporate sponsors, special interests and lobbyists. They spend money as if tax dollars are an unlimited source of funds.
