Is survival the ultimate goal of humans.
is it really what it all comes down to (religion, government, education, ...)?

Here is something I just found on another thread:

There is no 'meaning of life'. Our only purpose here is to propogate the species.

Responses: I really didn't mean on personal level. I meant it as a ultimate goal for all humans, and maybe not all humans in general but more specificly the ones we know.
I also kinda see it as where all of our family values, justice system, spiritual beliefs, and on and on come from.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

I dont think so at least not personal survival, maybe the survival of humanity or an idea or a beliefe, away from all the 'headlines' u mentioned ( i mean religion, government, education, ..) , a simple action can prove that...
People in the Army or Patriots who lived their lives trying to free their country they sacrifice their lives for their cause ... so they give up their survival for the survival of what is greater than themselves
which brings us down to what i said about personal survival and the servival of a surounding
ofcourse that doesnt apply to all people and some small people in life would do anything just to survive (good or bad ..) ...
But if we think of a human being as a superior sacred creature then i think its unjust to take those kind of people to be the delegates for all humanity

Surely, you must have noticed that different people have different values.

Different cultures have different value systems.

I take it that the above reflects your values?

It certainly is no reflection on mine.

Have a nice day.
