if you cannot tell your parents you are not ready to get engaged.

If you can't tell your parents, then you're not ready to be engaged or married.

If you don't have the confidence to stand up to your parents and be firm in your commitment to your boyfriend, nothing will change when you get married. Marriage requires you to be confident, competent and mature; in addition to loving and respecting your husband, those three things are the very least you bring to marriage.

You aren't ready, so don't do it. If you're hoping that marriage will bring these qualities to you, then you really shouldn't do it.

Well, I'm 24 and got married to my husband who is 2 years older then me. My mom wasn't for it, neither was my sisters.

You said your afraid of telling your parents which usually indicates that you are a tight knit family, like my family. They tend to lean toward the controlling and manipulative side rather then encouraging Independence (which I wish I had more of).

If you truly feel like you are making the right decision then do it!

I married my husband 7 months ago and it was the best decision ever. My family cooled down and asks about him now which is a good sign. They were sooooo cold to us before but oh well. If you gotta live your life you gotta live it. It will be of no use to allow your parents to live it for you. You are you and should be entitled to that life changing decision.

Good luck to you and think before you leap!

p.s. Make sure your bf/fiance is right for you. If he has habits that annoy you make sure you can live with that for the rest of your life! Or else it will be alot of pain to ask him to stop it. Make sure!

How old are you ? If you're 18 or older, the proper way is to have your boyfriend over and have him and you both tell them together. With him being there, it will show serious intentions. If you're are 17 or less, what's your hurry ? Finish school first and then worry about marriage.

Good Luck !

if you have a boyfriend and you think it is going well then i would tell them...give them a heads up that you might get engaged. If you r scared then maybe there is a problem eith the boy if you are that nervous.

Or if you think they won't like him and that is why what you should do is you could let them slowly get used to him!!!

why are you afraid? how old are you? Do you think you're old enough to get married? Wait honey, don't rush, marriage isn't going anywhere, if you two love each other, even in 10 years you still will want to get married and if not, it wasn't meant to be!
