Depends on what type of stalker, online, telephone, personal.
Online - Report them to whatever online service they are stalking you on. Change your profile to receive no e-mails-get a new e-mail address, get a nickname and keep your original profile name intact.
Telephone - Report them to the phone co. There is a tracer that can be placed on the calls.
Personal - Report the the local Police department and get and FOLLOW through with a restraining order. Call 911 if the person disobeys it - have a cell phone with you at all times. Go to all court dates.

If you are talking about on here, you have to drop off for a while and close off all computer communication routes. If it means changing your whole email, then that is what you need to do. It all depends on the severity of the problem.
If the person knows your personally or your location, you need to be prepared to involve the authorities with no hesitation whatsoever. Do not be put off if someone does not take you seriously, tell someone else until you get the help you need.

Report them and let them know that you are not going to put up with it then ignore him/her and let the police deal with it cause you can't put yourself in danger trying to fix it yourself.
