I currently live in NJ with my wife and 3 kids... in about 8 years we are looking to get out of NJ and move someplace greener and warmer - in the SC area.... but we have no friends or family in the area and its such a large state - its not like you can take a ride down and "check out out"... I'd like to live someplace that nice but inexpensive... so, not like a resort area like near the beach... how would one go about finding out details about a nice little town to move to?

I lived in both upstate and the coast of SC. If you really want to look, in your library, in the reference section, there should be a book called Places Rated Almanac. I think there are 4 metro areas in SC listed. This is a great resource. I have used it on several of my moves.

i live in SC, near the beach... you can find something pretty inexspensive in towns such as georgetown, andrews, or conway, all just 20 - 30 miles from beach... best to stay away from the grandstrand area anyway, too many tourist...hope you and your family like it here - it is warm and most of the people are very friendly...you can check out "the SunNews.com or georgetown times for locals listings on rentals or for sale property...and now you have a friend in the area as well..nice to meet you and your family...we also have very good school districts here...good luck and welcome from SC....

I've heard that there are nice areas inland, in the mountains in the western part of the state.
