Seeing as how heterosexuals do not feel the need to announce their sexual orientation before running for office, yes, it makes no difference to me. Sexual orientation is not a indication of future wrong doing. Bad character is no more prevalent among gays than straights.

I would vote for a gay person if I believed in what they were saying.. sexual preference has nothing to do with their politics.... some people find it hard to come out of the closet, so if I voted for someone and found out they were gay, as long as they were doing a good job and doing what I voted them in to do.. I wouldn't care

Hard to say. I mean if he hasn't come out of the closet, then we wouldn't know we were voting for a "gay," so it really wouldn't be an issue. I can understand why some don't come out but on the other hand, I'd wonder about trust, say if it came out before his re-election.

I don't think it should matter if they are gay. If you agree with their politics, i.e. their agenda and their record, then you should not have a hard time voting for them. On the other hand, if they are not open about their family then it may cause some distrust with some people - I think some positions would be harder to obtain while remaining in the closet.

Now that is a dumb question. If he doesn't tell anyone how would anyone know he's gay and in the closet? So how would someone be able to decide if that would even be a factor in trusting someone?

This is a paradox.

If he was in the closet you wouldnt know he was gay before you voted for him.

I have already voted for a party who's leader is openly gay, the Australian Greens. Do I care? No. Do I trust him? Well, he certainly would do a better job than John 'racist, gay-hating' Howard, our local lap-dog of George W Bush.

I honestly really just don't care. If he's honest and hardworking, I don't care if he's in or out of the closet. Is that OK or will I be forced to take a position on that?

If you're gay and in politics, the sooner you come out the better, before blackmail, or the gutter press is involved. I mean - unless you're in the BNP, KKK or whatever, no-one is going to care, as all political parties have gay people in them.

Of course. His or her orientation is none of my business. What is important is how well the politician serves the people they represent. To me, asking if you wouldn't vote for a gay politician is like asking if you wouldn't vote for someone just because of the color of their eyes.
