A Great White Shark decides to make the small beach resort town of Amity his private feeding grounds. This greatly frustrates the town police chief who wants to close the beaches to chase the shark away. He is thwarted in his efforts by the town's mayor who finally relents when nothing else seems to work and the chief, a scientist, and an old fisherman with revenge on his mind take to the sea to kill the beast.
it is a great movie
Jaws won Academy Awards for Film Editing, Music (Original Score) and Sound. It was also nominated for Best Picture, although Steven Spielberg was not nominated for Best Director. The film is consistently on the Internet Movie Database's list of top 250 films.[11] Jaws was #48 on American Film Institute's 100 Years... 100 Movies, a list of the greatest American films of all time, and #2 on a similar list for thrillers, 100 Years... 100 Thrills. It was #1 in the Bravo network's five-hour miniseries The 100 Scariest Movie Moments (2004).[12] The shark was anointed #18 on AFI's 100 Years, 100 Heroes and Villains, opposite Robin Hood. In 2001 the United States Library of Congress deemed the film "culturally significant" and selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry. In 2005, the American Film Institute voted Roy Scheider's line "You're gonna need a bigger boat" as number 35 on its list of the top 100 movie quotes. John Williams's score was ranked at #7 on AFI's 100 Years of Film Scores.

Jaws is one of my favorite movies. My mom is terrified of sharks. Well, we finally got her to take us to go see Jaws 2 at the theatre. So we're watching the movie and when the shark jumped up in the water, my mom screamed "Holy sh**!" At the top of her lungs. Everybody in the theatre was laughing. Including my sister and me. That's why this movie is one of my favorite ones.

i saw the first, third, and fourth. i wanna see the second.... i like the first the best... the fourth was lame... n the thrid was kool in a lame way cuz of the 3Dness... lol... i havent seen them for a while thow so i dont remember much of the story lines.... the original jaws was great for its time! especially the goreiness... not many movies would allow such violence. jaws gave a huge shock to the world. it put the audience in a state of fear to swim at beaches! tee hee...

Jaws is a pretty good movie. it'll definitely keep you out of the water for a while, unless you are one of those people who looks at it too closely and only thinks of the shark as being the robot or whatever that it is. so don't overanalyze. go rent it. have a good time.

The original Jaws was a decent enough fright film - if you could get past the unrealistic aspects.

It is one of the few "horror" movies out there that actually scared me. Course, I was about 6 or 7 when it came out and I saw it. It never did affect my ability to go swimming at the beach, though. Huh.

One of those few instances where the movie is far superior to the book.
