same as dont look a gift horse in the mouth...its free take it and dont quibble about age or whatever.

This is similar to the saying--don't look at gift horse in the mouth and means...accept the gift without looking further or you'll find problems/something unattractive about it. In the case of the fish, if you sniff it will smell, well, fishy. So accept the gift and enjoy!

That is the equivalent of "never look a gift horse in the mouth"

Both are expressions that mean don't check too carefully on the value of a gift you were given. It might not be prime but it was a nice gesture anyway.

I think it means the same as never look a gift horse in the mouth. Which basically means be grateful when someone offers you a gift !

that basically means the same thing as "dont look a gift horse in the mouth." dont question if someone gives you something, and dont request more. The best kind of gift is the one given freely, not asked for.

sounds like they meant that if someone gave you a fish as a gift and you sniffed it you would hurt their feelings. Like you didnt trust them or something.
