I feel the same way, chocolates are so tacky. They are way over rated. When giving gifts it is only the most tackiest. Nothing says I dont know you so here hopefully these will do. If ppl want to give gifts they should at least make an effort. A simple single rose or carnation of just the right color says so much more then those dang sweets. If the person giving the gift actually has known you a while the gift should be more personal, no excuses. I feel if they have known you a while and cant produce a decent gift, they shouldnt even bother. Chocolates are so yesterday and today is all about personalization.

Share them amongst your friends. This way you will not offend the person who bought them for you and also it will personal rather than impersonal buy sharing a prezzy like chocolates. And you don't have to eat them if you share them...but no doubt you will be tempted. I know I would but one is not going to hurt is it?

If the chocolates were from someone who normally buys you presents, then perhaps if you feel that you know them well enough you can explain how you feel about receiving prezzies like chocs. I am sure they would not be offended and will be only too pleased to buy you something else in future. If it was goodwill gesture by someone who does not normally buy you a present...just grin and put up with it.

Yeh, I think that if it was a friend or family member who know that you struggle to keep your weight down, they showed a lack of insight and support. I think that you should give them to an old people's home this Christmas. Then tell the person who gave them to you that you would very much appreciate their support in helping you lose weight! I also think that giving chocolates (especially the run of the mill brands) lacks imagination!

At the time I'm like Yahoooo.
Then I'm kicking myself for eating them
then they are gone. They don't last long especially if there are a few in the house with you.
I like presents that I can use over and over and that I will always have

I agree, they are impersonal. I guess the person who gave you the chocolate figured it is a very classy gift and that everyone likes chocolate.

I wouldn't think it annoying, only because I love chocolate and would never turn it down. But I agree, chocolates are not something you can give to anyone and everyone.

Yeah they are thoughtless if the giver knows you are on a diet! Drop a gentle hint that a book would be less fattening! lol

Yes - Anyone can get chocolates. It just doesn't seem original as a gift
