Our firm requires it. I guess they are allowed. I don't mind the direct deposit, but it seems wrong to force it.

I work at a bank, not only do they require direct deposit, it has to be in an account at this bank. You don't like that, move on is their opinion.
You will get used to it, and wonder why you want to go fill out deposit slips, and worry about getting to the bank before closing or 3pm on payday. Now you only have to go to cash a check.

Yes, you do have a choice. Some people prefer the check itself and others love the direct deposit. An employer can not force you to do direct deposit.

Yes, and it's much safer for you.
You could have bad weather and can't get to the bank...and still have to write checks to pay your bills.
You could have someone try to follow you and steal your money after you cash your paycheck...ever thought of that?
It is there automatically and really is convenient for you.
You could also open an online banking payment option at the bank or credit union of your choice. They write the payment checks after you choose what to pay. They keep track of what is received and what is paid.
You can visit the online to see if your paychecks arrive...at home on your computer...in the privacy of your home....and you can view your payments....right from your home....and they pay for the postage too!
This actually gives you freedom!

Some states allow an employer to do this. Some don't. You have to call your states division of wages and labor to ask.
On the bright side, almost everyone who has direct deposit loves it.

Yes they can require you to do direct deposit. It makes life so much easier anyway. No more going to the bank.

direct deposit is really convenient. with that said.
if they are no longer printing checks, I would say you have to abide by there policy's.
change is hard to do, but necessary in today's society.

I work for the state & it's that way here too, we have NO choice. It's not a bad thing, you just have to get adjusted to it, it does have its perks.

No. However, they are required to give you a statement of earnings showing gross pay, net pay, taxes, and any other deduction.
