I have to agree that late term abortions should only be done if they are life threatening to the baby, mother, or both. there are just some situations that call for drastic measures but depression should not be one of them. If the mother is depressed, then some responsible party must be present with her during the rest of her pregnancy and after the birth due to post partum depression or just give the baby up for adoption. I am pro-choice myself, but if it is late term then there has to be some sort of regulations set up due to the complications that can occur from a late term abortion. It is more life threatening to the mother when there is a late term abortion and also a period of revcovery just as if she had the baby in the first place. It would be better for the mother to have the baby and then give it up for adoption and both parties will be healthier and live.

Most late term abortions are only performed if the mother's life is at risk. There are very few doctors that will perform late term abortions on anyone who has just decided not to have the baby...I would say there are none but I'm sure there are a few.
The legislation that was in question completely banned the use of the late term abortion and did not give any sway for medical conditions faced by the mother. It is not that prochoicers are for late term abortion as a form of birth control it;s that we don't want the option taken away for women who are going to die if they deliver. I have never heard of a late term abortion in the third trimester because by 21 weeks many babies can survive outside of the womb.
I have not heard the story you are refering to but I would love a link so that i can read it. Thank You
I looked this guy up, his name is George Tiller. I am prochoice but believe what this man does is wrong. It is people like him that give prochoicers a bad name!

This is the reason so many women who do opt for abortion later regret making the decision of having been forced by parents/boyfriend/husband or willing had the abortion making the decision on their own with no outside influence.. They later get married and have a child, or have a child while in a relationship and not married, and realize that they made a decision that has caused them heartache and guilt. Others can live with the decision showing no emotion or guilt in the decision to abort their fetus. We have had 3 members of our immediate family to have had a 1st trimester abortion, and all three have had depression, thoughts of suicide, and guilt that they have found hard to live with even though it has been years later. You are right about one thing. We cannot force others to make a decision like this on our views of abortion. They are the ones responsible for making their own decisions even though we do not have to agree with them. I do not think that late term abortions are the answer at that point of the baby`s development since a baby born at this phase can actually survive. It is heartless and cruel to end an infants life like this. There are many couples who would love to have a baby.

If the baby is viable outside the womb, then no doctor will perform a termination; though they may do an early delivery. The determination of when a pregnancy is endangering a woman's life needs to be left to doctors, not lawyers. There can't be hard and fast rules on this.
It's important to consider the statistics too - there are VERY few late term abortions - almost all occur before the fourth month of pregnancy. See the US statistics below.

There are restrictions on late term abortions in many states. Also, I thought Bush signed something into being regarding that too, with restrictions.
I feel that if someone needs to make that choice, they better make it early on. But to I don't feel ANY man has a right to legislate, interefer or hinder ANY womans decision on this subject. Hands off guys, this is a woman's issue and unless all of you want to put a rain coat on and act more responsibly...hands off our bodies!

I was watching Fox news about that Dr in Kansas, did you catch the part about him not reporting RAPE in children?? That made me ill.
Personally, I AM PRO-CHOICE, but am against partial birth abortion UNLESS it's a life-threatning situation. Depression, you've got to be kidding me, that's just wrong.
Good luck with your new baby...

MYTHS ABOUT ABORTION
Myth 1. It's "my body".
Busted 1. No it's not. It is a foundational genetic fact that your body has your DNA, your fetus' DNA is different.
Myth 2. The fetus is a parasite.
Busted 2. A parasite, by biological definition, must be a different species. No thinking person would consider apples as parasites of an apple tree. (However a worm in the apple is indeed a parasite). The biological defintion of parasite can be found at http://www.thefreedictionary.com/parasit... . Some committed abortion supporters cling to the etymological definition of "one who is sustained by another without benefit to the host". Taken in that sense, a 6 month old baby is as much of a parasite as a fetus. Only the most despicable monsters in world history killed the very young.
Myth 3. You can't legislate women from getting abortions by making abortions illegal.
Busted 3. Driving while intoxicated is also illegal, but thousands of people are killed by drunk drivers every year - only an imbecile would suggest that we legalize driving drunk because people "will do it anyhow".
Myth 4. You can't tell a person what to do with their body.
Busted 4. Wrong. There are many laws regarding public health and decency (Ex. you can't ride the city bus while in the nude.)
Myth 5. Fetuses aren't human.
Busted 5. 46 human chromosomes couldn't possibly be anything else. Tyrants and slavers throughout history always rationalized their crimes by denying the humanity of their victims. Radical supporters of abortion point out that on rare occasions terrible genetic diseases like Turner's Syndrome cause people to be born with 45, 47 or 48 chromosomes and that these people are "not human". While these genetic diseases have pronounced physical and mental manifestations, they do not change the species of the affected person.
Myth 6. The fetus cannot survive on its own.
Busted 6. Neither can infants - a six month old infant would quickly die left to its own abilities. Again, only history's worst monsters killed infants.
Myth 7. Many Christians get abortions.
Busted 7. Many Christians owned slaves - didn't make it right.
Myth 8. Making abortion illegal would force women who were raped or pregnant through incest or whose health was threatened to give birth.
Busted 8. Before Roe v Wade many states allowed for court ordered abortions for this very specific set of circumstances. A system for quick and condfidential judicial review for terminating these troubled pregancies would ensure the taking of human life has its day in court.
Myth 9. Human eggs and sperm are alive. Menstration and masturbation are the same as abortion.
Busted 9. So are the cells of the lining of our mouth - but like the egg or sperm, they independently could never be the start of a new human being.
Myth 10. The fetus isn't human because it isn't sentient.
Busted 10. Neither are people who are unconscious, and no one would suggest killing a person because they are unconscious is legal.
Myth 11. If you don't like abortions, don't have one!
Busted 11. If you don't like slavery, don't own one! Didn't work in 1865 - the abortion version won't work today.
Myth 12. If abortion is made illegal, dangerous "back alley" abortions will thrive.
Busted 12. The availability and efficacy of modern contraceptives can make unwanted pregnancies as likely as winning the lottery.
http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov/cic_text/healt...
Myth 13. You can't support the death penalty and be pro-life.
Busted 13. Any unborn person convicted of a capital crime should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

absolutely NOT... he should definitely pay for his crimes... but he's an exception, most doctors will NOT perform an abortion after the first trimester... so please don't think that is common... I would hate to see this become a hate crime against abortion clinics like in the past because it is very uncommon for doctors to do that...

i think my views on abortion are a bit more extreme than yours but, yes i have to agree with your disgust at this doctor and his practices. life threatening...well...personally, i would take the risk to my own life for my child's life. i know that ushers in all kinds of other questions but i absolutely know, without a doubt, that i couldn't abort my child, period.
