In the 1980's when the Russians Invaded Afghanistan? Well, we didn't help Osama so much as we helped the country fight our biggest communist enemy since the Cold War began in the late 40's.
We provided them with money and equipment to help fight and try and keep out the invading Russian army.

We were allies with Stalin against Hitler.
We were allies with Saddam against Iran.
We helped Osama's forces defeat the Soviets when the Soviets invaded Afghanistan.
The world is a tough neighborhood. We sometimes have to deal with unsavory people.
