Of course, other women have had abnormal pap smears. That is the point of doing the smear. Are you asking this because
you are afraid about your pap smear results? It is normal to be concerned but don't freak yourself out. About 50 million paps are done in the US every year and probably about 3 million
are abnormal. Abnormal does NOT mean you definitely have cancer. Abnormal could mean that you have an infection
such as fungus, HPV or precancerous changes. Abnormal means that you should follow up with the doctor. Hope this helps.

Yes I have twice now. what do you want to know I give you as much as I know....I had colposcopy done which determines the grade of the abnormal cells. They are graded as CIN 1 2 or 3.3 been the severest form and left untreated can turn to cancer but this can take many years to develop so it is best to seek the treatment now and get rid of the cells.I had CIN 3 the first time around and this year was told I had CIN 2 which I had treated in August.I now will have to have a smear every 6 months. Anyway the treatment I had was called LLETZ (large loop extraction of the Transformation zone)which involves scraping away the cells with a heated loop under local anaeastic although this time round I had to have general. When you are referred to the colposcopy clinic( scary word I know but basically it is the equipment used to see the top of your cervix where the abnormal cells are)a colposcope like a camera shows the doctor the area to be treated and a small biopsy is removed to determine the grade cin1 2 or 3 then you will have them removed. you may experience some mild period like cramps and bleeding.I hope this has helped and I hope I have'nt scared you but it is important to know what happens and more importantly get the treatment done asap good luck hope all goes well.
