A independent women is a woman who does not allow anyone to think in her place.
She will take in council but will do as she deems best or as she pleases. She is not swayed in by being popular or even beloved.
add on--Money and Social standing have little to do with. Florance Nightingale gave it up-Mother Teresa -both independent women-in my book

Why do we need a separate term to describe a woman who works for a living and pays her own bills? You never hear of anyone talking about an "independent man".

My definition of an independent woman is a woman who can take care of herself. One who doesn't need anybody else to make her happy or to support her because she can do that herself. She can also make her own decisions. It doesn't mean though that she has to be alone/single the rest of her life but rather when she does date it will be because she likes the person not because she needs them to support her or make her feel better about herself.
