Oil that was altered by human manufacturing and placed were it was not intended. On the water, it can be recovered easer than land.

Anything that has new or used oil in it that is thrown away. A good example would be engine oil! What happens is, that oil never dries up and will contaminate anything around it where ever it is for years if not for hundreds of years and maybe thousands of years to come. Absolutely not good for the environment.
To prevent this from happening. Any kind of oil should be recuperated and brought to a specialize place where they recycle it and use it again.
Today almost every city or town have at least one of those recycling places.

the spillage of oil on land or ocean can cause oil pollution.the oil pollution may lead to extiction of species in ocean, it lead to the killing of birds depending on the marine food.and some oil refinaries release the waste oil to the sea or near by pond leads to the oil pollution. there are some microbes that can degrade the oil that spilled on the ocean or land.
