I've got one, have 75K miles on it, have not had any problems to date. The transmission kind of thumps into gear first thing after starting on a cold morning. Other than that, I can't think of anything. Do you have one with problems, or are thinking of acquiring one? I would definitely recommend them.

Being a Honda Technician, I can probably answer your problem.
The Odyssey only has a few problems.

1. Transmission, The Odyssey transmission has a lot of failures. It could be a harsh upshift, transmission slipping, or no shifting at all. The transmission has an extended warranty. So If you have any problems, any dealership would be able to replace it for you.

2. Sliding door issues, Sliding doors tend not to operate properly. Sometimes not working correctly, to not closing at all, or has a lot of play on the door itself causing improper alignment.

3. Brakes, The orginal brake pads will make a loud howl noise. It can be updated with newer pads. Simple Fix.

Those are the most common problems with Odyssey.

Hey there,

Man o Man, if everyone had one I would be selling hotdogs at the mall instead of having a shop. Only problems we see, and we have about 50 in our client database is rear window wiper motor roughly 250 to fix with a new one, OE tires wear out way to quickly depending on the model of tire (about 40k).
NOw, there is one problem we have seen at our shop and I dont know if this is becomiing a global problem or not but about 3 of the ones we have coming in and a few walk-ins have had transmission failure. It usually starts out with the drivers side axel seal leaking and kinda goes downhill from there. We havent had the opportunity to investigate why this is happening and there may be an internal problem that is causing this seal to push out. All 4 were sent to a local transmission shop to rebuilt as we do not specialize in transmissions. Best case 1800, worse case 2900. The seal replacement is only around 150.

I agree with Reggie. It's your 3rd gear going bad. If it was your wheel bearings, the noise would get louder as you went faster- meaning over 50 MPH it would still be there. This is a tranny issue. Take it to Honda and get it replaced. There's a TSB on the Ody transmissions from 1999-2003. they extended your tranny warranty to 105K miles. Go get your new (and better) tranny free of charge.
