I recently gave up smoking, although when I smoked I relied on the stimulants you get from smoking a cigarette to aid my very bad level of concertration when I am working. Now I decided to give up, my work is suffering. I dont get as much done as I used to, and I get really easily distrated. I dont really want to use that as a excuse to give in to the cigs, but its utter torture at the moment. I have drunk more coffee, taken regular short breaks but nothing seems to help. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can use to improve my concertration?

I know it's the 'in thing' at the moment but omega 3 and 6 fish oils improve concentration in kids so it's worth giving it a go for you you haven't even got to eat fish(although it's a shame not to) you can get it in tablet form. Check with doc 1st if pregnant or trying though.

On a more physical note try setting yourself short targets to achieve if possible and take a break once you've achieved them, increasing the time frame slowly over a week or two.

Oh and coffee's not likely to help too much unfortunately, well done on the ciggies though!

I never smoked but I had my issues with wine drinking - loved it to much that it interfered with my plans.

I noticed when I switched to decaf it was easier to control cravings.

I also know that good amount of fish oil makes wonders with our brain. They say vitamin C in high dozes (about 4 g) helps to fight cravings too. I take a lot of fish oil, occasionally vit C

And I am almost teatotal now. Don't selebrate evenings and weekends.

Hey there,

If you like playing games. This is the best thing to do - to divert your mind from one and help to concentrate on what you are doing. Play games alike Tetris, or some timed word games, this helps the concentration a lot. Cos' you get so involved inthe game that you realised you have improved on your concentration a lot.

Try it you will like it.

You have to first examine your current load of worries. Unless you solve the serious ones you would be unable to focus on anything. If you don't have any worries but yet unable to concentrate you have to learn simple meditation under some one who can teach you. Meditation vastly improves power of concentration, if practised regularly.

stimulants can harm your level of focus, you will have to try and concentrate on something. I say avoid caffeine, and try starting out focusing on something and work on it.
