I've always had an electric stove. For the past year I live in a place with a gas stove. So far I think I prefer the electric stove. It's easier to adjust the temperature. I always have to look down at the burner to see where the flame is on gas. Also you get the smell of gas whey you first turn it on and you have to wait a few seconds until the pilot light catches.

An electric stove takes a little more effort to get the exact temperature you want for recipes that involve turning down the heat after a while.
Our street does not have gas mains so it is not a matter of choice for us. I would rather put up with an electric stove than worry about gas explosions.

we're not everyday cooks, but we've got a flat top electric that works great. it's really easy to clean, and it has sensors to tell which burners are still hot until they're completely cooled off. i've always had bad luck with gas stoves, i end up either burning the food or myself.

I like Electric...........it is much cleaner than gas. However those of you who like Mexican food, usually perfer the gas stove. It is much nicer for preparing tortillas. Using electric works ok, but the gas is perfect for this. I have ceramic electric stovetop. Which I donot like. Will never have another ceramic stovetop. They are so easy to keep clean, but seem to have a mind of their own. ha. Maybe this is just a feature of ceramic, which I donot like.

I hate my electric too! It takes so long to heat up and doesn't cook as well as my gas one did.

I prefer gas because you have more control over the heat and it is instant, as soon as you turn the knob the flame responds
