We always play the normal things... sports, boardgames, etc... SO is there any games we can play that will get everyone involved while being different than everything else?

We use to play this funny game when trying to get a group to know each other.

You put everyone in chairs in a huge circle (facing in) and one person in the middle (who does not have a chair). This person then makes an interesting statement about themself. (" I have been sky diving before" or "I have lived in the same house my whole life" for example)

Then eveyone in the circle for whom that statement is also true yells "that's me!" and has to get up and find a different chair. The person who made the statement also rushes to get an empty chair also. This will leave a new person in the middle.

The middle person then makes a new statement and the game continues. It is a cute way to learn something new about the people and it is often hillarious as people dash to get a chair.

Have fun!!!

We had a lot of interesting games, especially for lock-ins. Sardines is one, which is kind of like hide and go seek but the reverse. One person hides and everyone else has to find them. As they're found, the new people hide with them. The last person to find the group is usually the next 'it' person.

Fruit basket upset was another. A circle of chairs is all that you need. You pick 4 fruit names, assign one to each person (alternating around the circle) and there's an it person in the middle. They call a fruit and all those people have to get up and go to another chair, at least 2 away from their regular seat (no one seat hopping). The person in the middle also tries for a chair. If they call fruit basket upset, EVERYONE moves. It can be pretty funny.

A complicated game that's good for long events is the string maze. You need string and blindfolds. You make a maze out of string throughout the church, with the main path ending in the sanctuary (we had it end right at a cross). The other paths are dead ends. You blindfold the people and tell them to follow the string and not let go. It's supposed to be kind of like life; if you take the alternate paths you can get lost, but you can also find your way back to the right path. Someone should be at the end to meet the people that make it and get them away quietly so that other people don't figure it out by noise/talking.

There are more, but I think these were 3 favorites.

You could have contests. Forever ago when I was in youth group we use to have fun ones where we'd see who could throw more pies at one of our leaders in a certain amount of time. I think we also tied each other up in toilet paper, did relays, fun stuff like that. Think party games on a much grander scale. ;)
