Any reason : history , mythology , weather , people .
you got the right to choose . I say that because an old man told me once that he feels history when he's in Athens ; more than Rome .

If these are my only two choices then I would have to say Rome because it was beautiful and the Colosseum was breathtaking but also because Athens was dirty and polluted and I was constantly being ripped off by locals so that left a very bad taste. They say that Crete is better for cultural/historical travelers than Athens BTW. But the city I fell in love with, the one where I felt the most history of all was in Istanbul Turkey. Ephesus is close by (a city inhabited since 3000 BC and one of the seven wonders of the world) and it has the oldest Christian church in the WORLD, St. Peters along with Muslim Mosques and palaces. It was amazing to see the different architecture and religious influences right there within one city.

I agree - i would choose Athens. History and mythology would be my reasons. However Rome comes a close second!

While both hold great attraction for me, I'd have to say that I'm more drawn to Athens. Athens represents the older civilization-Greek- and ever since I was small, I've been fascinated with Greek mythology. The hundreds of stories and traditions that still resonate in modern civilization are irresistable. I would love to get a chance to visit and research these places.

Neither, go visit the east. Places like Iran(Persia) have much more interesting architectures and culture than Athen and Rome. They are just over rated!

Athens, for sure. You must see the Acropoles, or the Pireus, or at least take a walk on the streets in centre of the town. It's a dream!!! Believe me... Been there, done that!
