Use ice to freeze and chip away the bulk of the chewing gum... Take a small bit of peanut butter rub into remaining bits to melt away any small stubborn bits.. Clean upholstry to get rid of peanutbutter..

Peanut butter also works great to get chewing gum out of hair...

I have this product called "un-du" adhesive remover, that I use on all kinds of sticky stuff. I haven't tried it on gum, but I read the label when I saw your question and it says it also removes gum and tar and is safe to use on clothing and upholstery. Just not leather or suede. It really works and is not very expensive. I think I picked it up on a whim in the check-out isle at Wal-Mart!

SORRY! None of these methods will work.Peanut butter will leave grease stains from its natural oils, and ice will only work if it is certain kinds of gum (Not sugar free!)Theres a product on the market and can be purchased at Home Depot called "Gum Out".It comes in an aerosol can.It is the safest way not to ruin your upholstery.
