I didn't interact with the child that had it, but i'm sure my daughter would have a higher chance of getting it because the parents didn't know until over the weekend. My question is I'm in my first trimester and I was told that if you are pregnant, it could harm the fetus, I'm doing some blood work in a couple of weeks. The nurse told me it could increase my chances of a miscarriage. Any personal experiences on this?

I worked at a child care center for many years, including the whole nine months I was pregnant with my daughter. Trust me, I came in contact with a lot of little viruses and such, including Fifths disease. When fifths disease went around the center, my doctor made me immediatly leave work and head over to the hospital for blood work to be done. I was not able to return back to work until my bloodwork confirmed that i was indeed already immune to Fifths Disease(which I was). By this age, it is very likely that your body has already built up immunity to this disease....so don't panic, however, there is a chance of miscarriage, so your nurse was correct. My advice to you is to call your doctor ASAP and explain your concerns have them draw blood and test to see if you are already immune to this. Better safe than sorry!! Good luck!

Pregnancy complications from fifth disease

For women who have not previously had fifth disease, contracting the illness during pregnancy can increase the risk for certain complications. Pregnant women who have been exposed to the illness should contact their health professional right away.

A very small number of pregnant women who get fifth disease will have a miscarriage.

In extremely rare cases, the infection can cause a condition called fetal hydrops, in which the fetus develops life-threatening anemia and severe swelling throughout the body. The mother and fetus should be closely monitored with fetal ultrasounds to detect this condition.

When fetal hydrops is detected, the fetus may be treated with blood transfusions while in the uterus, although this is not usually necessary. Some babies born to mothers who were infected with fifth disease during pregnancy may also be treated with blood transfusions.

SOunds horrible its not!
Fifth disease is not not not contagious!!!!

It is seasonal. It is a rash that stay on the body for a few days. My son had it early this summer, the doctor said it was exposer to too much sun, and or more activity then usual.
I dont know why the nurse would say it could cause miscarriage, I could see chicken pox, or measles, certainly not fifth desiease.
Please do an engine search on it and read up.

The executive (USDA) has designated necessities for foods served in daycare facilities if they're given the aid of the federal government (so much are). These require that the snacks incorporate designated accessories within the required quantity. Unfortunately, this may transform pickles and crackers (considering that the pickles quilt the vegetable/fruit aspect, and crackers satisfy the grain aspect.) If you desire to deliver snacks to the daycare, they'll must have compatibility on this required sample to ensure that them to be served. The requirement is they ought to incorporate a minimum of 2 one-of-a-kind accessories (fruit/veggie, milk, protein, grain) and within the correct quantity. Ask the care supplier for his or her necessities, or you'll be able to ordinarily uncover them on-line on your state. Then paintings from there. Keep in brain matters like carrots and ranch dip won't qualify until additionally served with milk or a grain.

You should contact your doctor immediately. Let him/her know that you've been exposed. They can do tests to see if you are already immune to the fifth disease. Also, this disease doesn't have any known effects on the unborn child except the known miscarriages. I will be praying for you and your baby. Talk to your doctor, hopefully you are already immune to this disease, if so then all will be well. Good luck and God bless!
