I have been divorced for three years now and havent been involved with anyone since. I have been seeing someone for about 4 months now. I have 2 teenagers and they dont like the idea of me dating someone. It has been just me & them for about 5 years now. How do I get them to understand that I am ready to move on with my life, but that they will always be first in my life? I dont want to be alone for the rest of my life, but I want them to know that they are still very important to me.

Explain to them what you just told us. You see, they're teenagers.. so they know what it's like to start feeling love inside the system and wanting someone to hold and kiss. So, because they're at that level, you need to explain to them that just because you've been married before and the marriage was not successful, it doesn't mean you want to give up on love completely. Inform them that they will always come first but finally you have coped with your previous relationship and you're ready to emerge onto new things. If they say they don't like the idea, ask them, well don't you guys want to date? Don't you want to have fun? And, have someone call you just to say they miss you? They need to get the idea in their head that you'll still love them. This other man will not take the attention or the spotlight off of them. If anything, a healthy relationship will only make you a happier person, and that's essential.

They don't want anyone taking their parent away from them! You are just going to have to have a long talk with them and tell them you are going to date whether they like it or not and also tell them that you still love them!
