What do you think of Evansville, IN?

Have you lived or do you currently live in Evansville, IN? I'm interested in this area due to the lower cost of living and the laid-back aspect I'm told about but I have a few questions: I've heard the air really smells bad, is this true? Are their any really bad parts of town I should look out for? How are the real estate taxes?
