I personally think its cheating.

Its a condensed version of what the original author intended.

Perhaps its a nice way to get the 'flavour' of a certain author or genre, but if you do find one you like, I think you owe it to the writer to get the full version and read it.

Anyway you look at it though, reading is reading and there is nothing wrong with that.

I think they're a waste of paper. If I want to read a book, I'm going to READ it. What's the point of condensing a good read down to bare essentials? If the author can take the time to tell a story, the LEAST I can do is READ it as intended. If I want the Cliff Notes version, I'll buy that. At least then I know what I missed.

Reader's Digest taught me what my English language professors had failed to teach me during my college days in India.

Years ago I read a fascinating book, called "the Source" describing man's history in bites from cave dwellers to modern times. I reread it in a RD book, which version was so abbreviated that there was nothing of the narrative left. RD murdered it.

Love 'em. They present the type of book that I would only be skimming anyway. I think everybody needs a light read occasionally.

I think it's one of the best books to learn a little about everything. It's especially good if your too busy to read lengthy books or novels.

It's a good bathroom read, but the content is so conservatively limited so as to not offend (nor inform) anyone. Save your money and borrow the neighbours copy.
