My fiance's niece is heavily into sports. She has all of the sporting goods she wants/needs so I can't go that route. Anyone have any gift suggestions for Christmas? $30-$50 or in that range. He doesn't want to ask her parents because that ruins the "surprise" of it all. I think it makes it easier, but that's not an option.

I think that the best thing to do in this situation is to perhaps go for something that every kid likes, no matter what their personality is like - chocolate and candy.

It's a great and extremely simple gift, and you don't have to spend a lot on it. Get a jar, decorate it a bit, and put a mix of different lollies in there. Chocolate, gummi worms, jelly snakes, jelly babies. All those sort of things. The best thing is, you can buy bags of mixed lollies anyway, so you don't have to pay a lot to get the different types.

It's a simple solution to a rather difficult problem.

It all else fails, let her attack you with girly products. Kids of all ages and genders like drawing on peoples' faces. My daughter is 6 and isn't into any of that. But she does have a fascination with making her father look like a gender-confused stripper.

Maybe a signature from a player she likes? You could probably find one on eBay, though it may be more expensive, depending on the player. Or a book on sports. Or a few tickets to a local sports team's game.

Perhaps tickets to one of her favourite sports to watch the game with extra ones for her closest friends to join her and make it an outing for them. Perhaps include a small luncheon for after the game of her favourite place. Hope that helps.

How about a gift certificate to the mall? It seems that's where kids like to shop these days. This gives her the opportunity to get something she's been wishing for but is afraid of asking for it outright. Then she can get exactly what she wants. How sweet of you to be thinking of her.

Those skates that make you go.....
Its a skater, no its shoes....no definatley skating there in the mall, no now their shoes......oh oh, skating again......The kids I see wearing them are about that age, and I always ask them about them and they say how much they love them.
Or a skateboard.....I liked archery when I was a young girl. (not at animals though)
Or a gift card to the local paint ball course.
