I have a 1978 motor home with a fiberglass body that I need to dispose of. This vehicle is not repairable so my thought was to take it to the salvage yard but they said "no way". They cannot dispose of the fiberglass body. I asked the local camper dealership. They have no suggestions. Any ideas?

Try offering it up to your local freecycle group for parts. Hopefully someone will be looking for some of it!
To join and use Freecycle, go to the home page (freecycle.org) and use the links on the left side of the page until you find your local groups. You may want to join more than one if there's a lot in your area. I'm a member of two and both are Yahoo groups but I don't know if they're all that way. Once you've joined and received a welcome letter, just post your motor home as an Offer. You may want to say Offer: Motor home for parts, then in the body of your message be sure to specify that the person who takes it must take the whole thing and that they should come with a way to haul it. Good luck!

Check with your local disposal or waste management facility. We own an older mobile home court. We have had to dispose of older homes in the past and it usually comes down to breaking it down with skidloader or something like that and putting it into a big waste dumpster(like you see on construction sites). It's a lot of work, but with the older ones that's sometimes all you can do.

Depending on how "not repairable" it is..

You might check with some of those charities that takecars, boats, motor homes to fix up and to sell or to use in teaching autoshop courses at juvenile detention facilities. They might take it off your hands.

You could sell it to someone for parts.

Otherwise, you'll have to check with your local landfill and see what they tell you about disposal of it.

this might sound strange...but call your local fire department and see if they can use it for training...the EMS where I grew up use to take donated vehicles and use them for training courses for the medics and firefighters...I've seen them use motor homes/school buses/cars/trucks so maybe your local FD could do the same or know of someone who can
