That is wonderful that you've stayed married for so long despite the odds and age difference. Sixteen is a young age to get married, but maybe in 1964, that was the thing to do! Congratulations!!
I don't have a daughter. Nor would I want her getting married and having a child at 16. But if her marriage works out, that is wonderful, too. Sounds like you have set the standards for morals, parenting, and responsibility onto your daughter. I have to give you credit for that.
I've only been married 4 years and it's been very hard. My mother in law isn't making it very easy. But there's been a lot of pressures in our marriage and we're still managing. Hopefully, I can say my husband and I will be married forever. I plan on it, but you never know!! At best, I can honestly say,....I plan on staying committed forever....fair enough?! lol

You are very fortunate and/or blessed. Congratulations. Being such a young grandmother means you will no doubt see several generations, especially if the trend to marry young continues in your family. Marrying young can work, but it is increasingly difficult in our society. I think your success must have had something to do with the fact that your husband was a lot older...at least at the time. If you both had been teenagers, it would have had a lot less chance of working. As a wiser grandmother, I'd suggest that you counsel your progeny to wait, go to college, and have longer engagement periods to make sure it's right.

Committed forever my asss. Your a rarity and thats great that you were able to ha ha in the faces of folk who expressed their opinions and were wrong. I was made a grandma this year (age 37) My son is 18 and ironically I had him at 18. The beat goes on and the world goes round. To answer your question, I am commited for as long as I possibly can. I'm no liar, cheater, or user and I wouldnt stay COMMITED to someone who wasn't committed to me. (not saying any of this took place in your marriage) But it is because my hubby wasnt committed to me that I separated after 3 months of marriage and divorced 7 years later.. Good luck to you all.

I think 16 is way too young to be married. However, I'm very happy that you are STILL married. I think your daughter should have learned from your hardships that finishing school and college was the way to go before getting married. It will harder for her to become educated with marriage and child responsibilities at this point.

I met my husband when we were in the 6th grade. We were together for 2 years until I moved 600 miles away. I visited the area where he lived at the age of 14 and we got together again, until I had to go home. Bumped into him again at the age of 25 and we've been together ever since.
Not the same as your story, but another tale of love that was meant to be.

Absolutely. I believe that marriage should be forever, and luckily, so does my wife. I say good for you! An excellent story of Marriage success, casting aside what others may have said and sticking to it.

My husband is 8 years older then me, however we got married a year ago when I was 27 and he was 35. That sounds a lot better and healthier then getting married at 16.
