and clam shrimp the tadpole shrimp live in
temporary ponds because they can not tolerate
predation by larger animals such as fish. Their
eggs are resistant to drying and freezing, and, in
fact, require one or the other to break their dormancy before they will hatch. In North America
they are found only west of the Mississippi, except
in Canada where they extend further east.
