Yep, my son had the same thing when I brought him home. The doctor told me that it's small breasts that will go away within a week or two due to my hormones that got passed to him during pregnancy and birth. It's very normal, and it will go away.

I went to a birthing class last week and was told the same thing as the other two people here said...it is normal. Hormones from the mother that pass on to the baby (boy or girl) that will go away in a week or so.

The baby is lactating due to the amount of hormones in his system from his mommy. It will go away by one month. As for why some babies have this and most don't I don't have any answer. Your sister can mention it at the next chec-up but it doesn't warrant a trip to the doctors unless she is really worried. You could also taste it to see if it is breastmilk ;-)
Remember all fetuses start as girls and then develope into boys if the Y chormosome is present (unless something goes wrong) so men have the same breast tissue as women (and heart and lungs, etc).
"Oftentimes, newborn babies are capable of lactation because they receive some amount of prolactin and oxytocin (milk hormones) from their connection to the mother."

I have never heard or seen anything like that before. I have 2 children and pregnant with my third. According to the other responses that is normal. Well that is good to know cause I would have freaked out if that happens to the baby I am expecting. I would call the doc anyway.

I think that she should take him to see her doctor as soon as possible, this is not a good thing. Babies normally do not have fluid coming out of their chest and their chest area does not feel like there are two lumps in it and it is normally not high and hard. Seek medical attention right away. I hope that the baby is OK and I wish you all the best. My prayers are with this little guy.
