What s too much gas.Are you going by gallons,not $$,and filling up the tank driving X # of miles,then refilling tank dividing miles by the gallons used.Do this at least three times (600 miles) then you 'll have a good #mpg to go by. If you want to throw another part at it try a MAP sensor or MAF,I think an 87 had a MAP sensor.either one tells the computer how much fuel to give the engine and both have a high failure rate.

If its carburated, then you need to have this serviced. If it's fuel injected you need to get this serviced. The thing is that your car is working alot harder than it has to in order to run and that's why it's burning all this extra gas. Replace ignition cables, have the distributor checked, and also, make sure that the timing is proper. If that doesn't solve the issue, then check your tranny and axles because there may be a problem there.
