its not the fastest guy on the block but for surfing the net, burning Cd's and myspace its fine

there are 2 things you should do though
1. Have your geeky friend reinstall windows xp home from scratch that way it will run much faster with out all of the crap that
dell reinstall (trust me this is a great idea)
also use open office instead of Microsoft office its basically the same and its free(150 dollars saved right there!)

2. get the biggest battery for it that you can afford cuz you want to take advantage of the mobility of the laptop
it should come out to just about 800 or you could bump up to the e1405

Previous answers recommend Dell. Good prices.........but, when you need help it is available on a Premium Line.

Instead, my friends and I, use The Price Wise Roni Mk. 1. Available for around $400. Lots of Software too. Plenty of help for the cost of a National Rate phone call. You are given a special Ref. No. The operator then knows all about you and the machine. This saves lots of Qs. Students at our college are more than happy with their PCs and the service.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU.
