More and more of us have. The death penalty is a archaic institution to say the least and one has a hard time truly arguing in its favor without coming of Barbaric or ignorant. However you must understand that America is always the last of the Western Nations to become "civilized". We were the last to abolish the slave trade and end slavery, one of the few to not offer universal healthcare, or statefunded secondary education. It seems as if the only thing that America spearheaded was the end of monarcrial rule. Europe had pseudo-republics before the revolution, Constitutions and legislative bodies before 1776.

So we are a young nation and will eventually catch up to Europe but one must give us time as our ego tends to greatly hamper our civility.

Raping and murdering children is uncivilized. Shouldn't you be putting down the criminals? And Not the ones who punish them.
A death penalty is letting the criminals off easy.

We are moving backward along the continuum to a point at which the history of civilization is disregarded.. Recall how the US guarded the oil ministry during the Sack of Baghdad, but not the Iraq national museum.

The USA has found Europe to be uncivilized. We believe in punishing criminals, not coddling them.

Plus, capital punishment enjoys a 100% non-recidivisim rate. No one put to death has ever re-offended. Stick with what works.

Europe doesn't want to execute because of the possible political consequences. Has nothing to do with being civil

Because the US is not a civilized country, as Europeans understand it. It is not only the death penalty, but also the total disregard for the weak and vulnerable in society, the barbaric way of allowing free access to weapons, the lack of education, and the way the US as a State totally disregard international law when it suits them.
