Reminds me of the quip:
"Minds, like Umbrellas, work best when open."

Then I rememebr watching Kung Fu and hearing the master say
"The open mind is like a root, absorbing all things, including the poison that will kill it".

So maybe mostly open is best. Trust, but verify.

It's a beautiful quote; whether that works or not depends on who the teacher is. Parents, a lot of times counter act teaching as well. Sometimes beliefs are forced onto children, other times a child's will is strong enough to overcome it.

That's what I'd like to think. A good education will do just that. Most "education" is anything but. A good example is religion: How many people who grew up with their religion have ever then thought to question anything they've been taught?

The last thing taught in US public schools is freedom of thought.They want to raise a bunch of lemmings that just go with the flow.
