The causes people leave the country for are:
better education, better jobs, better health coverage, for better opportunities, to socialize more, to discover another side of themselves, to do something out of the ordinary, be different, etc.
The effects people have when they leave the country for the city depends on what they find when they get there. If for example a person from Tennessee comes to New York City, they might be overwhelemed with the amount of people they encounter and might get scared or they will feel out of place. It is always good to go with someone, not alone, because it just might be too much to bear, then again it might be fun. It all depends on the person and their out-take on life and on changes. If they can adapt to change then they can make it. That's a huge change though, always good to come prepared. Learn about the city before you get there so that way you can know what to expect.
