There is no for sure way to trigger labor. I was past my due date for all 4 of my pregnancies and I did lots of walking, had plenty of sex, ate spicy food, drove down bumpy roads, scrubbed floors on my hands and knees, all to no avail. None of these things will hurt you so you can give them a try, some women swear by them, but none worked for me. My doctor performed a pelvic exam in hopes of triggering labor, but that didn't work either. With all 4, I went into labor when I was least expecting it - 2 in the middle of the night when I was sound asleep. I had absolutely no signs of impending labor with my youngest when I was 1 week past due and went in to have a cervix softening gel insertion. I was not effaced nor dilated when the gel was inserted. Within 15 minutes I was having 6 minute contractions and the baby was in distress. My body had a bad reaction to the gel and things were prepped for me to be induced but the labor progressed well without the pitocin and our daughter was born with little complications.

Nothing that is safe will start labour unless your baby is ready. You need to respect the fact that your baby may need some extra time even a week or two past your due date.
You can try the safe things like:
-Sex
-Oral sex (if you swallow ;-) )
-Nipple Stimulation
-Spicy food
-Swinging
-Going up elevators
-Black licorice (in a reasonable amount)
-Walking
-Talking to your baby
-Meditation
-Going to a chiropractor to ensure that the baby is lined up properly and your hips/spine are in the right position http://icpa4kids.org/ to find a qualified one)
However induction, caster oil, cohosh, etc are NOT safe, except under the care of a midwife or physician and even then any attempt to cause a baby to come before they are ready can cause complications for both the baby and the mother.

What worked for me was sex and orgasms in general.
Other things are:
1. Castor oil (can cause stomach cramps which are not contractions) - never tried it
2. Thumb sucking (something to do with pressure points - didn't work much for me)
3. Eggplant parmigiana - some nearby italian restaurants gurantee it will induce labor (not sure the amount of days) or your money back
4. Nipple stimulation - midwife told me to do this after my water broke to get labor going. She told me to do it in the shower and with a breast pump but we could not get a breast pump- I think it made my contractions more consistent
5. Walking - midwife told me to do this as well, I didn't find it very helpful

well I have heard walking, sex, nipple stimulation, caster oil (which I personally wouldnt try), raspberry tea leaf, squats and some reflexology. However, I am now 41 weeks and nothing works for me..and trust me I have walked till I practically dropped and had tons of sex and nipple stimulation...no progress. I will just have to wait until wed. when I am induced. I dont think the baby is going to come out until he/she is ready. I know about the uncomfortableness and wanting it over though..im there with ya. Good luck and Hope that you have and easy labor!

Have sex, eat a spicy meal, scrub the kitchen floor and bathroom or try Evening Primrose Oil. You can take a couple tablets daily and even insert the oil into the vagina to help the cervix to dilate.

Sex really works. A mans sperm has a natural chemical that thins out the cervix and causes contractions. Also nipple stimulation causes the uterus to contract.

perchance the prostagladins do no longer do something. in spite of the undeniable fact that the pitocin( called Oxytocin )this is needless to say released from the suggestions throughout nipple stimulation and orgasm will help to set off exertions. it somewhat is the comparable hormone this is released via the physique the starts off the contractions for exertions and the comparable hormone this is taken to set off exertions. while somebody is in preterm exertions docs tell the females to abstain from intercourse. That has no longer something to do with the prostagladins in semen. It has to do with the pitocin this is released from the suggestions.

Dr induces by smearing fake lab semen on your cervix. Try the old fashioned way of getting the semen there... cheaper and very effective.

Lots of walking if you can, and also sex if you still have your mucus plug. Oh and Red Raspberry Tea. You can find it at your local grocery store. Good luck and congratulations!!

i think taking a long walk is the best.
squatting...helps dilate you for when your labor does start
some women take castor oil, midwives suggest it in place of being induced.
