What are alternatives to polyphosphates used in detergents?

I am currently doing a project on detergents so I would like to know if there is any possible alternatives besides polyphoshpates... Sorry if I did not mention it earlier...

Most detergents have already reduced phosphate levels to below requested minimums. I think you have a stale worry and need to upgrade your worry list.
