I use mac, so i think you go to tools, and there will be something to clean out files that are unuseful. Sorry i cannot remember the name of the program.

There a re a few things that you should do. Get onto the control panel and then to the program where is says for you to add or to remove programs. There you can remove all of your unwanted or un-needed programs that you have. Afterwards you will have to buy a software program that cleans your programs. I personally do recommend the one by McAfee, and the reason for that is because it is very simple to use. As well another thing for you to do is to get onto the website microsoft,com/security,
where you will protect your computer from all sorts of viruses that clutter up your computer. You should also use your anti-virus program at least once a week. I recommend the one by McAfee called Total Protection, and the reason for that is because it protects your computer thoroughly. Finally, in adressing your adware, which as well clutters up space and slows down your computer, I suggest that you use the one called ad-ware 6.0 Professional version, and the reason for that is because it does such a good thorough job at removing whatever ad-ware that you may have. You should use it after every time that you are through in using the internet because you never know just what is going to affect your computer, without you even being aware of what is happening.
Finally one other thing that you can do is to check out on the Kingston website to see if there is any hard drive available for you to purchase to both increase your memory as well as to speed up your computer.

Well i had the same problem a year before when i owned an old pc of celeron 500 mhz, 64 mb ram and 4 gb hard disk.. as far as i remeber i used to go to disk cleanup to clean all the stuff..its in the same place where u find defragmentor... to delete files manually go to Windows folder and then to temporary files folder ie temporary internet files and temp....both.. u can delete all files here
also think of uninstalling softwares that you don't need...
then turn system restore off.. you can do this by going to properties by right clicking on my computer icon and going to system restore tab... as i gather that u area careful user, try turning off system restore on all drives...
you can compress the data to save disk space.
for saving even more disk space, if you have enough ram, you can reuce the page file space or virtual memory as you call it...
do it from properties of my computer, advanced, performance area, settings, advanced tab, virtual memory, change
here you can reduce page file space to 100, pc will be slower for the moment but only a little and you can defragment and restore original settings... take care, keep initial and maximum size same..

and hey itz better to keep windows 98 on your computer or if u think that is clumsy try windows 2000. Xp is really heavy for your computer and it uses swap files in hundreds of mb's....
okay have fun....if you want tips to make computer faster without buying newer hardware or buying only some cheap accesories, you can mail me with your full computer specifications..
bye dude
have fun

You don't want to go and delete things that you don't know about. You can right click start and click on explorer, then go over your programs and delete from temp files, etc. If you really want to free up the space then you may have to uninstall something that you don't think you can live without right now.

I think you have overloaded the HDD with some OS which consumes more space. Win 2000 and Win XP consumes too much of disk space. Incase of Win98 or Linux based OS it consumes very less amount of space thereby providing you enough space to store data.

No and no. The new PC has to have new operating software. The exception is that you can clone your old hard drive contents to a new hard drive, but only within the same machine.
