create a small network . You need a router, you can go wireless or not, but the router is a necessity. It will enable you to plug another pc in, or to use the wireless connection for one or several other pc.
Your modem will connect into your router, which will dispatch the information to all the computers.
You can download network magic (google it), it is free, and helps you setting and handling your network.
If you fear another unwanted pc would access your account, network magic will tell you about any intruders, and how to secure your network.

If you don't know the answer to this then you REALLY should not be using a computer on Broadband

Worst case scenario:- Somebody has you user ID and password and presumably access to your e-mails so they COULD just set about totally defrauding you and doing a right number on your finances getting banking and e-bay passwords

LOG ON NOW and change your password Then use every Spyware Scanning software package you can, e.g. Adaware XBOTspy, every one you can find etc and make sure there are no key loggers

If you have on-line banking freeze those accounts now or ring them (RING, USING A TELEPHONE, NOT GO ON LINE) and change your passwords

Less worse you have an unsecured wireless network SECURE IT NOW all of the above are still possible

Best case
you left you machine logged on and somebody has just used it in your house, hopefully one of your family

I really hope its not the worst case scenario

Get it sorted now!

They could have your broadband username and password.

Or...

if you have a wireless network, they could be using your broadband connection via your wireless network if you do not have it properly secured (although strictly speaking in this scenario, they are not logging on to your broadband account, but using a router which is already logged into your broadband account.)

I think you need to define what your "broadband account" is in order to get a satisfactory answer here.

Is it?:
* Your line activated account with your ISP? (settings for modem/router)
* An online web page account? (webmail, account control panel, etc)
* Somebody using your network / wireless network?
* A remote control session of your actual PC?
* something else?

.

If they have a wifi enabled PC and are close to you, and you have an unsecured network, then they can log on to the Internet via your connection to surf the net.

If you have wireless and you do not set a WEP key on your router, they can easily use your Internet service.

Read your ROUTER manual
