Galactus.

Sauron couldn't even kill two midgets who plunked a peice of costume jewelry into a volcano.

MIDGETS. He lost to the "EEEEEEEEEEEEEE" commercial guy.

Now Conan vs. sauron would be something a bit less one sided against sauron, except to even the odds you would have to put gandalf and aragorn on sauron's side, and even then the odds would greatly favor conan.

Any of galactus' heralds would easily demolish middle earth while eating a sandwich and playing marvel ultimate alliance on ps2.

I'm not really sure what level of combat power Sauron would be capable of bringing to bear on the problem. He usually seems to have acted through intermediaries. I suppose that if Galactus did not have access to his machine with which he absorbs the life force of planets, Sauron might be able to give him a good run for his money.

Sauron uses his powers to influence others around him in an attempt to rule a planet and fails.

Galactus eats planets, and is usually not denied. You might pit Sauron against Dr Strange, but not Galactus, it's no contest.
