Well with my first one I had a fetal weight ultrasound at about 34 weeks and they said he would be close to 10lbs by 40 weeks... well he was born on May 14th, due date was May15th. He was 9lbs 7oz. BUT with my second one they said she was going to be a big baby too, estimating over 10lbs. I had to have about 1-2 ultrasounds every week after 32 weeks. She was born 6lbs 11oz 3 weeks early. So she would most likely have been around 8lbs at 40 weeks. So they were definitley wrong about her! My advice would be to go ahead with it and it could give you a good idea, but remeber that they could be wrong too! CONGRATULATIONS!

Ultrasounds can be off by as much as a pound (in either direction). There are many women who claim their ultrasound was off by as much as two pounds. The 'guess the weight' this way: There are four measurements that are commonly taken with an ultrasound in order to estimate the weight of the baby. These are the biparietal (sideways across the baby's head) diameter, the baby's head circumference, the abdominal circumference and the length of the baby's femur (thigh bone.) Using these measurements, the sonographer uses various equations to come up with a weight estimate of your baby. With my second, I had an ultrasound on Thursday. The *guess* on weight was 5 pounds 12 ounces. He was born on Saturday (two days later) and weighed 5 pounds 9 ounces. So, for that child the ultrasound guess was pretty close. That being said, I had seen many, many wrong guesses on ultrasounds, and they are almost *always* bigger in size than smaller.

I did have the fetal weight thing, and I don't remember what it was, but it was way off. They said something like 5 pounds at 34 weeks. I was 3cm dialated at that 34 wk checkup, so I was put on a semi-bedrest. At 37 weeks, my water broke and I had the baby. She was 7 lbs, 6 oz. So in three weeks she grew 2lb, 6 oz? Seems a bit off!

I had an ultrasound around 31 weeks that said the baby weighed 4lbs 11oz. The next was at 36 weeks, and it said 6lbs 12oz. I gave birth at 38 weeks, and she weighed 8lbs 5oz. They were pretty close!

with my first and second baby the doctor told me that I was going to have small babies my first weighted 5-3 and my second weighted 6-3 so the doctors was REAL close to the weight of them.
