I think there is nothing to worry. Most of the spam mails doesn't have a valid mail-id. So there is no possibility of them receiving it. And even if they try to track you the most they can track is your ISP, which can no way harm you.

By responding to a scammer, what you have done is allowed them to know that there really is somebody at your end with your assigned IP address. So they probably will spam the hell out of you. Otherwise, they will not know who you are as the person with the associated IP address.

This requires a court order requested from law enforcement to have a judge issue a search warrant specific to your IP address. And then with that order they will go to your ISP and the ISP will be forced to pull all the tapes saved in their computers and hand them over.

There are lots of ways to track you down, but then you just got to ignore those mails. The email to which you replied would contain an IP Address which is assigned to you. Through that IP he can track you down, but I don't think he would take the trouble to track you down. It's not that easy though. I have replied to lots of scammers, but no one bothered to track me down. For sure they would need the help of FBI to track you down.

Hope I answered your query.

yes you can be tracked down from an e-mail. and no you don't need the fbi involved to do it. make rules for your inbox, scan mails and attachments. i never open mail from unknown senders and amazingly i don't sign up for free things online. (nothing is free) and i don't have spam.
