I had 40 hours of vacation time built up. Is my employer supposed to pay me back for this?

You will have to contact human resources and payroll dept. Depending on the company, I am sure there is a handbook somewhere that has all the rules and regulations(most of it is in small print). Good luck!

If you have vacation time you are entitled to be paid or compensated somehow for this time as long as you had no rules regarding use of vacation. Where I worked you could not accumulate vacation past a certain point. You had to take the time off or when you quit you got a certain dollar value that was not equal to the time coming.

some places do, some dont. depends on what the policy is at your past job.

No, they don't have to. A decent employer will, but they are not obligated to do so.

NOPE. I GOT FIRED AND STILL HAD 48 HOURS LEFT AND DIDNT GET IT!
