free anti-virus software has come a long way in the last few years.gone are the days were you would stay clear of anything that was free, now there are some brilliant free anti-virus programs avalible to download
avast 4.7 is about the best of the lot,and is avalible free from http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html,and is very easy to install and update,it runs in demo mode for 60 days, but can be converted to the full version by registering free from the website
avg anti-virus by grisoft is a good free anti-virus with timely updates and a easy to use interface,it can be downloaded free from http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1. the only downside to this program is it can sometimes detect "false posotives",these are viruses that dont exist but avg thinks they do
there are a few more free anti-virus,but you have to look into them thouroughly before you risk putting them on your p.c,but also you can try using evaluation versions of anti-viruses,as some companys have 6 and 12 month evaluations which is the same time spam that some payed for versions give you
e-trust anti-virus do a 12 month evaluation,to try this go to http://home3.ca.com/Microsoft/
good luck
