I have a two remotes, each with three buttons - one large rectangle and two small round. I seem to remember some doing some combination of holding buttons in conjunction with the main unit some time ago when replacing batteries, but cannot seem to replicate the magic! Thanks for any help!

On the back of the motor unit near where all those white wires go you will find a small button. While holding down the button on your remote, press and release the button on the motor unit. If this was your problem then that remote will now work and you will need to do the same for however many more remotes you have. If it doesn't work then you have a logic board problem and they cost about $80.00 plus labor.
You may wish to check the site, there may be other issues if you are experiencing non-operability.

There should be a button on your garage door opener motor that you should have to push to program in new remotes. Then it will probably have a little light that flashes and after so many flashes or something you point the remote at the motor and press the remote control button you want to open that particular garage door. If that doesnt' work, go to your local Sears store and ask. If the sales people can't help you, they should have some service people there that do repairs on stuff like that and they could tell you or at least they could refer you to some 1-800 help number.

Here is how you "change" the code on a security plus remote. Go to the back of the opener and find the "Learn Code Button". Press that button and hold it down until the light goes out. Your memory is now clear. To match the remote to the opener simply go to the learn code button and press it once and let go. Then press which ever button on your remote you wish to use and your done. Find one of your models below. Liftmaster makes the garage door openers for Sears.
