GUESS
I think that he is planning this big wedding to show how her life can be, so he gets her down the isle. Then he will either not turn up and tell Jane he knows about her affair with Grant, or turn up, and tell everyone in the church about the affair and leave her standing at the alter ALONE

He's like a pantomime villain with an evil glint in his eye. He'll get Jane to marry him, and wait until the big day when he will let her down with a nasty stunt and a particularly nasty public announcement about her indiscretions with Grant - if previous form is anything to go by - leaving her destitute. That's entertainment!!!

i think he's gonna ditch her at the altar on their wedding day, publicly humiliating her in front of all the square, and with grant there too- hence the mention of inviting both the mitchell brothers, the other day. Remember how nasty he was with melanie, and laura? he's not going to take that lying down and he's waiting, so planning...building up the suspense.

yes i noticed the evil glance at the engagement party. i think he may embarrass her at the wedding by bringing up grant just as they're about to get married and leaving her at the altar.
i'd be surprised if one of the soap magazines hadnt done a story on it yet

They will more than likely get married and then in about 5 monhts time one or both of them will have an affair with someone else and they will get a divorce. Just like every other soap opera.
The average marriage in the soaps are about 2 monhts arent they?
So realistc lol

I think he is going to humiliate her at the wedding in front of everyone. A payback on all the women that have humiliated him in the past.

Ian is a control freak who never recovered from Cindy's betrayal with his brother.
He needs control to punish the wrongs he feels his women do, only by placing a ring on their fingers can he gain this serious control, just as he did with his second wife (forgotten the name) the one he used as a free baby minder and got pregnant and hated all in one go... oh... and he fleeced her too, after she had helped him get back on his feet and keep his business.
He loves only himself and his children, but even the latter is suspect, it's likely he loves the control he took away from their mothers... and though they are both dead, he still gets a buzz out of knowing he won the paternity stakes.
As for Jane... he wants Grant to see that she chose him, he wants a ring on her finger (through her nose) and he needs her unpaid help to raise the kids and run the cafe... and hwen he gets the licence, then he'll make her life a living hell and punish, punish, punish... and only after he humiliates her in front of others first.
That's my take on where it's leading, could be wrong, but that's my writer's mind.
My script would turn the situation round again on Ian... I'd let him get it off the ground, let Grant arrive... let Grant snatch her back at the eleven hour, right from the altar... because I like Jane and she's been through enough already... then, I'd let Ian crawl back on the floor where Phil had him before... and I'd resurrect the ghosts both his ex wives and see them laughing, as Ian dies slowly and in agony... but only after the chip van brake was mysteriously unlocked by an invisible hands... and it ran backwards over him... and as the light and darkness came in from the shadows, out of them, we'd see Laura (got her;-) and Cindy... and he's screaming out in terror, as Phil and Grant and Jane and all the square look on... and they can see it too...
they all see the two females tearing him in strips across the light and dark... and they see up above it all, poor old Kathy bemoaning her mistake, in birthing the little rotter and in spoiling him... and from the same shadows we will see all the faces of all the people of his past, that he has hurt... and all of them are determined to exact their pound of flesh as well... oh the terror in his eyes, the realisation on his face that he has been a sh*t and the sudden awareness that bad deeds don't go unpunished on the faces of the crowd as well, would mean no more dark and dismal, or depressing Albert Square... because they know it's coming to them all if they don't change fast... then, fade out;-)
